What is swim21 Accreditation?

swim21 Accreditation is a ‘quality mark’. It recognises nationally and regionally the clubs that are committed to providing safe, effective and quality services for the benefit of their members. Clubs work steadily towards the attainment of a series of outcomes, all of which are seen as essential if the right level of support is to be provided at each stage of an athlete’s development.

What does swim21 involve?

swim21 is a three stage process.

  • First, clubs audit their current position against a series of questions that are linked to nationally determined outcomes of good practice;
  • Then, based on their findings, they produce an Improvement plan that details the steps they need to take to address the gaps in their provision;
  • Finally, when they feel these have been addressed and they have achieved the outcomes, they then apply to become an ASA swim21 Accredited Club by contacting their Regional Development officer.

Achievement of swim21 Accreditation means that clubs will automatically be awarded Sport England’s Clubmark thereby ensuring that ‘aquatic clubs receive equal status with other sports clubs in the community.

Sherwood Colliery Swimming Club and swim21

As recently confirmed by the swim21 National Panel, Sherwood Colliery SC is one of the first clubs to achieve the swim21 club Essential accreditation in recognition of the work undertaken by the Club and its volunteers.

The accreditation lasts for one year and, in addition to the development benefits of swim21, the club Essential award also entitles the Club to credits and discounts towards ongoing volunteer training, awards and qualifications to ensure the sustainability of activity in line with the Club's objectives.

The work continues with annual updates required by the ASA each year. These detail progress towards achieving our targets for that year together with action plans for the forthcoming year.

If anyone has any further questions or is interesting in helping the Club with Accreditation please contact Liz Weston.
